Had a fantastic stay. Loved Jim and Leigh, who were super accommodating. Place had an awesome, old-timey feel but was extremely comfortable. A 15 minute walk from the heart of the French Quarter. Adorable dogs and made to order breakfast. Would definitely return!

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights and really enjoyed our time here. It was our first visit to New Orleans and Leigh (the innkeeper) had prepared a map for us on which she outlined all the local sights and attractions. I appreciated that she listed several places that were off the beaten path, so we got to see a side of New Orleans that was far less touristy. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance -- we enjoyed live jazz on Frenchmen Street, lunch at Port o' Call, beignets at Cafe du Monde, and a night on Bourbon Street, though we did take a cab home after a long night on Bourbon Street. ;) The inn was cozy and welcoming. We stayed in the guestroom in the front of the building, close to the front door, and it was surprisingly quiet. Breakfast was great and it was nice to not have to worry about that part of our day. The front porch was peaceful and we really enjoyed staying in a residential neighborhood as opposed to being in the middle of a tourist trap. I feel like we got a better sense of what New Orleans is really like. As of this writing, the inn is up for sale. I only hope that whoever buys it preserves the lovely warmth it has now.

in august of 2012, i had the pleasure of visiting NOLA and staying at the elysian fields inn for a few days. i arrived at midnight by cab. that in itself was pretty awesome - there is a set price (depending on the distance) of 20 bucks or so from the airport to neighborhoods that are close by. the host of the place was there promptly to quietly greet me outside, and tell me the basics about the bnb. the next day, i was welcomed to a pleasant breakfast in the main dining area. leigh and jim gave me the run down of the best spots to visit, an overview of transportation, and some info about local events for the weekend. i loved my stay at elysian fields. it was within walking distance to just about everything, and if i needed to take a bus, major bus stops were only a block away. the inn itself is well maintained, everything is clean and orderly, and my room was quite cozy. it was a bit on the expensive side - definitely not lush with endless amenities, but it was nice. the only hard thing about NOLA and tourism, especially in this neighborhood, is being in the midst of gentrification, economic recovery, blight, and poverty. that section of the neighborhood is smack dab in the middle of it all. if you walk a couple of blocks in one direction, you will see mostly white tourists, cute buildings, a park, and restaurants that lead up to the french quarter. if you walk in the other direction, you will see cop cars, mentally ill people, dilapidated buildings, and black people quietly congregating together. at no moment did i feel "unsafe" walking in both of these areas but it was definitely unsettling and...sad. despite this, i have a new respect for NOLA's beauty, decay, and cultural triumph. jim and leigh told me about a 2nd line that would be going through town in honor of uncle lionel - musician and figure loved by all who had passed on earlier in the week. the dancing and music in the streets by such an eclectic crowd really was something to see and be a part of.

Comfortable and roomy inn. We had a great room with a large bed and lovely bathroom. Owners are friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are delicious and hearty. Location-just a few blocks to Frenchman street and all the music clubs.

In planning our New Orleans vacation we found Elysian Fields Inn, in a Google search. The reviews were great, so we took a chance. We were not disappointed. Located a few blocks off of Frenchmen Street it is perfectly situated near neighborhood night-spots featuring local musicians and just a short walk to the Quarter. Other reviews mentioning the bar next door and photos showing it on a major street initially concerned us, however the front porch was very peaceful and the house and our room quiet. Our hosts, Jim and Leigh were gracious and helpful. Even before we arrived they answered our questions about transportation to the house, and helped us decide which room to book. During our stay they proved to be knowledgeable about things to do in the area, music venues and artists, restaurants, and transportation. They pointed us in the right direction when we were seeking out boiled crawfish and oysters. And their current favorite restaurant on Frenchman turned out to be a great option for dinner on our last night. The breakfasts were delicious. They put great thought and preparation into their menus, which was a wonderful surprise. There were also fresh pastries from a local bakery every morning. Extra touches like offering space in the refrigerator for left overs we might bring back and microwave popcorn for movie night in the room or late-night munchies, were also appreciated. We are dog lovers so the addition of Zeke and the puppy Louie made us feel even more welcome. They were so sweet and well behaved, adding to the relaxed and homey atmosphere. Our room was well furnished and comfortable (with extra points for Aveda toiletries and soft bath towels!). Fabulous local art, historic photos and native treasures adorn the entry and common areas adding a special significance and creating the feeling of being a part of the local experience. We loved our stay there and our hosts, and we look forward to returning.

I just had the pleasure of staying at this inn and am totally impressed with the thoughtfulness of the owners, Leigh and Jim who do their very best to anticipate their guests every need during their stay with in New Orleans, right down to providing ear plugs and sleeping masks in addition to other goodies that make a stay away from home pleasant. The location is ideal, right between the French Quarter and the interesting Faubourg Marigny which is the location of Frenchmen Street. The Inn is spotlessly clean and well decorated with eclectic New Orleans art, there is a resident dog, Zeke, who loves to get his belly scratched and there is a gay bar right next door which has drag shows every weekend. Oh yeah, there is also Gene's PoBoys several houses away where you can get a Hot Sausage PoBoy, you can't miss it, it is painted in Pepto Bismol pink color and sometimes the servers behind the counter will sing for you.... What more could anyone want in life?

We stayed with a group of friends during Jazz Fest, 2013. Leigh and Jim are wonderful hosts and their Inn is beautiful. Our breakfast was lovely, they outdo themselves. the rooms are quiet and very clean, as is the entire house. they make you feel very welcome by their attention to every detail. My husband and I stayed at the Elysian Fields Inn during our recent trip to New Orleans, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The proprietors are friendly and made great recommendations about places to eat & things to do; it's clear they love New Orleans and want their guests to have a great time. The inn is just a 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the French Quarter (close, but outside the noise and bustle), and right around the corner from the great music venues on Frenchman Street. Our room on the second floor was clean and comfortable, and had a jacuzzi tub that I was more than happy to take advantage of. I was also pleased that the "breakfast" part of "bed & breakfast" was a full meal -- a hot dish each morning in addition to fresh pastries and juice.

I traveled to New Orleans with a group of friends, one of whom did all of the hotel research and made the reservation at the Elysian Fields Inn, so I had no expectations. This was not my first trip to New Orleans, however, it was my first time in the Faubourg Marigny area and I happened to like the neighborhood, very lively and accessible. I was disappointed, however, with our experience at the Elysian Fields Inn. We stayed in one of the suites, and I found it to be outrageously small (and pricey) for four adults. The couple who slept on the sleeper-sofa found it so uncomfortable that they moved the mattress to the floor. When the situation was explained to the proprietor the next morning, she got really defensive instead of apologizing or attempting to rectify the problem. We then inquired about moving from the suite into two guest rooms and she told us there was no vacancy. She then corrected herself and said there was vacancy, but she couldn't find the time to turn the rooms over. I work in the hospitality industry and I found the whole scenario to be appalling. Also along the lines of overall comfort at the Inn, the rooms did not come with extra pillows, blankets, or towels (four adults in one bathroom received a total of four towels). Furthermore, there was no access to climate control so if we were really hot or cold, we were out of luck. Even worse was that the proprietors weren't always around, so we couldn't even ask about the above-mentioned things. And while their website advertises daily housekeeping, guests should know that housekeeping actually takes place every other day. Lastly, I like my space, my privacy, and quiet time (especially when I'm on vacation). But I didn't really get that either: breakfast is somewhat communal and served promptly at 8:00am. And if you're staying on the first floor, you can hear every single person on their way to the dining area beginning at 7:00am because there is no carpeting and the doors/walls are paper thin. I guess I'm not the B&B type. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be back to the Elysian Fields Inn.

When I chose to stay at the Elysian Fields Inn, I assumed the best part about the place would be the location. Because Brad Pitt lives only five blocks away, and often rides his bike past.* But even if you're not the teenybopper I am, you're going to love the Marigny. It's one of the liveliest, most fun neighborhoods in New Orleans. You're a block off Frenchmen Street, which is perhaps my favorite part of the entire city. With Snug Harbor, d.b.a.,** The Blue Nile and more, you will ALWAYS have a great live band to check out. And you're right near the French Quarter, but without having to deal with the craziness at all hours; in my opinion, the best of both worlds. I didn't really have any expectations beyond location, but as it turned out, the Elysian Fields Inn was an excellent decision all around. The inn itself is a gorgeous old mansion. We opted for one of the more affordable guest rooms (as that's all we could handle), and even though it wasn't enormous, it was definitely large enough for two. The room was beautiful and well-maintained, with plenty of storage space and very high ceilings (I love that). The whole place is fully wired for wi/fi, and there is even a computer for communal use in the great room. They have an extensive collection of books on the blues, and even a little library of movies should you decide to stay in (you won't). Now, normally when breakfast is "included," I assume the worst. Coming in, I figured our only options would be continental, and predictably crappy. However, although they do have pastries (delicious!) and coffee and orange juice, you also have a choice between a cold or hot breakfast each day. The cold was always fresh fruit, yogurt and granola, and the hot varied from day to day. There was bacon, eggs and toast one day, croissant French toast another, and buttermilk pancakes from scratch (with real maple syrup) on another. All cooked to order whenever you got up (between 8 and 10), all delicious. I suggest you go with the cold breakfast, however, because if you're doing it right, you should be eating ridiculously rich food at lunch and dinner, and you'll want to balance it out. The inn is also dog-friendly. And if you don't have a dog, don't feel bad, because you can play with Zeke. He's an ENORMOUS yellow lab/golden retriever, and he's mild-mannered and lovable. There's also a cat named Gonzo, if you're one of those freaks that likes cats more than dogs. For us, staying at the Elysian Fields Inn was like staying with family. But without having to worry about your aunt bitching at you for coming home drunk at 4 am. The proprietors, Leigh and Jim, are completely awesome, and clearly love the city. Chat them up and you might learn a thing or two.*** Lovely people, lovely place, lovely price. I'm extremely glad I chose to stay here. ________ *If you stay at Elysian Fields, and you don't see Brad Pitt, please do not come crying to me. There are no guarantees in this life. **The real one, not the NYC knockoffs. ***For instance, Snug Harbor's burger is exactly the same as Port of Call's, without the wait.

Great old house in a hip and up-and-coming district of NOLA (the Marigny). The room was nice and breakfast was tasty. The proprietors (Jim and Leigh) were awesome and super helpful! Also, Zeke, their giant dog is freakin' awesome!

Leigh and Jim are the best! The inn is spotless and housekeeping IS daily (a previous review said otherwise). They are generally available if needed, but out of sight mostly except at breakfast, which Leigh whips up to order (two or three items available each day + continental breakfast). Hot and cold drinks are available all day and night. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable. This is the best of both worlds: it's a b and b without instrusiveness. Suits my style perfectly. Leigh and Jim are more than happy to give out advice and recommendations and have great stories to tell, but they won't press them on you. After one stay, I can't imagine spending Jazzfest anywhere else. (Leigh, I know it's a pain and an expense, but two bath towels per person would be divine).

Can't wait to go back! We chose Elysian Fields Inn mostly based on it's location, affordability, and availability -- and were pleased with all that and more! My experience matches the other positive reviews here. The hosts, Jim & Leigh, were not only super sweet and very knowledgable about New Orleans, but so easy to talk to without being intrusive or awkwardly chatty. They have perfected the art of B&B hosting, in my opinion! They're full of wonderful recommendations for food, music & events, and have stocked the common room with books and videos about New Orleans (that you can take to the DVD player in your room if you'd rather be private), as well as brochures on local attractions and booklets for self-guided walking tours. Our room was fantastic. We were on the second floor so it was quite quiet (as others have mentioned, I'd recommend the first floor for early risers, and the second for those who might like to sleep in). The room was spacious, with lots of storage and lovely high ceilings, plenty of lamps and great natural light -- but also blackout shades to help the sleeping-in. Comfortable bathroom, and pairs of water, wine, and drink glasses plus a tray to take your libations out to one of the two fabulous porches. We watched a thunderstorm from the front porch one night with some whiskey on ice. Breakfast was spectacular. Leigh & Jim were always prompt and friendly with breakfast service, and wow, can they cook! I am a breakfast lover, so very much appreciated that breakfast was a full meal. I was especially grateful for the extensive selection of tea. The Inn is perfectly situated 3 short blocks from Frenchmen St -- which is where you *should* be going for music -- and is an easy walk to the Quarter. In other words, the perfect spot for those who want to enjoy all New Orleans has to offer, without having to push past drunk college kids to do it. I recommend The Elysian Fields Inn without hesitation.

Outstanding. I think the previous review was written by a disgruntled hung-over youth. Leigh and Jim are passionate about New Orleans and full of great advice on restaurants, bars, music, walks, drives, everything. Their B&B is gorgeous, and while it seems a bit grubby when driving off the interstate, the inn is fabulous and quiet. A huge main room is packed with guide books, good coffee, teas and excellent pastries. Free internet, comfy beds, awesome shower products, fabulous porches. Our room had guide books we could take with us and they were generous in our checkout time and it's decorated with fabulous good-taste-art, not tacky, chintzy Ross crap. The inn is located in a fabulous gay hood, next to fabulous gay bars and full of tropical charming houses; a couple blocks from the French Quarter, through Washington park, which was full of gorgeous plants and youths playing jazz. Great location, great prices, great peeps, great morning breakfast. Love it and I'll be back.

The Inn was a great place to stay. The room and facilities and clean, the front and back porch are nice spaces, the neighborhood's far from the hordes of pasty khaki-clad lumps touring the French Quarter, and it's easy walking distance to Frenchman St, the Quarter, and Canal St for the trolleys. The bed was supremely comfortable, and our stay overall was awesome. A couple of downsides: if you walk a few blocks in the wrong direction, you're in a dicey area, and "breakfast" was quartered blah pastries not worth the calories or a yogurt parfait not readily available - you had to ask one of the owners, they didn't offer on any of the three mornings we were there. And the coffee sucked. Overall great, though, and the owners are accommodating and friendly. A friend of ours is a New Orleans native, and he came with us when we checked in. He said the B&B is one of the best and most professional he's encountered in NOLA, and my opinion is that it's worth the cost, which is a bit higher than most hotels. We would stay here again.

from the booking, where leigh sent great recommendations and made sure our arrival and planning were set, to our late night arrival that was seamless, and our reluctant goodbye, leigh, jim and their gorgeous dog zeke were the perfect hosts. we felt at home and comfortable in our spacious room and the gorgeous, artfully decorated house. the whirlpool baths were perfect for our worn out feet and legs after days of walking and more walking, and the back porch was a lovely place to watch the sun set and sip champagne before heading back out into the action. the neighborhood is close enough the hustle of frenchman's street and the craziness of the french quarter. we were so happy we chose the inn as our home base on our first trip to new orleans. we had everything we needed and more... tasty breakfasts, comfortable bed, amazing tub and the knowledge of our super friendly and down to earth hosts. only one tip i'd give as a caution - if you like to sleep in later than 8am, ask for a room on the second floor away from the breakfast room, where everyone is talking about all the fun they've had and are going to have. not sure about the previous bad review... breakfast is anytime you'd like it between 8 am and 10 am, we had plenty of towels and am sure if we needed more, jim and leigh would have obliged and the great thing about them is that they live in and know new orleans really well, so, of course, they do get out and about when they can to enjoy the place they love so much. we loved our stay there and will be back.
